Introduction

PN Junction Diode electronics ka ek basic aur important semiconductor device hai. Ye diode current ko sirf ek direction me flow hone deta hai aur dusri direction me block karta hai. Isi wajah se ise unidirectional device bhi kaha jata hai.

What is PN Junction Diode

PN Junction Diode ek semiconductor device hai jo P-type semiconductor aur N-type semiconductor ko join karke banaya jata hai.

Jab P-type aur N-type material ko ek sath join kiya jata hai to unke beech me ek junction create hota hai jise PN Junction kaha jata hai. Isi junction ki wajah se diode ki special property hoti hai jisme current ek direction me flow karta hai aur dusri direction me nahi.

Construction of PN Junction Diode

PN junction diode ki construction semiconductor materials se hoti hai jaise Silicon (Si) aur Germanium (Ge).

Isme do main regions hote hain:

1. P-Type Semiconductor :- P-type semiconductor me holes majority carriers hote hain. Isme positive charge carriers jyada hote hain. P-type material banane ke liye semiconductor me trivalent impurities (Boron, Gallium) add ki jati hain.

2. N-Type Semiconductor :-N-type semiconductor me electrons majority carriers hote hain. Is material ko banane ke liye semiconductor me pentavalent impurities (Phosphorus, Arsenic) add ki jati hain.

Depletion Region

Jab P-type aur N-type material ko join kiya jata hai to electrons aur holes ek dusre ki taraf move karte hain.

Is process ki wajah se junction ke beech me ek region ban jata hai jisme free charge carriers nahi hote. Is region ko Depletion Region kaha jata hai.

Ye region current flow ko control karta hai.


Working Principle of PN Junction Diode

PN junction diode ka working principle forward bias aur reverse bias par depend karta hai.

Forward Bias:-

Forward bias me diode ko is tarah connect kiya jata hai:

  • P-side ko positive terminal se connect kiya jata hai

  • N-side ko negative terminal se connect kiya jata hai

Is condition me depletion region thin ho jata hai aur current easily flow karne lagta hai.

Iska matlab diode ON state me hota hai.

Forward bias me current ka flow P-side se N-side ki taraf hota hai.

Reverse Bias:-

Reverse bias me diode ka connection ulta hota hai:

  • P-side ko negative terminal se connect kiya jata hai

  • N-side ko positive terminal se connect kiya jata hai

Is condition me depletion region wide ho jata hai aur current flow almost stop ho jata hai.

Iska matlab diode OFF state me hota hai.

Reverse bias me sirf bahut chhota leakage current flow karta hai.


V-I Characteristics of PN Junction Diode

PN junction diode ka behaviour Voltage-Current (V-I) characteristics graph se samjha ja sakta hai.

Forward Bias Region:-

Jab forward voltage increase hota hai to current rapidly increase hone lagta hai.

Silicon diode ke liye threshold voltage lagbhag 0.7 V hota hai aur Germanium diode ke liye lagbhag 0.3 V hota hai.

Reverse Bias Region:-

Reverse bias me current bahut kam hota hai jab tak breakdown voltage na aa jaye.

Breakdown ke baad current suddenly increase ho jata hai.

Applications of PN Junction Diode

PN junction diode electronics circuits me bahut important role play karta hai. Iske kuch important applications niche diye gaye hain.

1. Rectification:-

Diode ka sabse common use AC ko DC me convert karna hota hai.

Power supply circuits me rectifier circuits diode ka use karte hain.

Example:

  • Half wave rectifier

  • Full wave rectifier

2. Signal Detection:-

Communication circuits me diode ka use radio signals detect karne ke liye hota hai.

3. Voltage Regulation:-

Kuch circuits me diode voltage ko control karne ke liye use hota hai.

  • Reverse breakdown hone ka risk
